What is PAYE Modernisation?
PAYE Modernisation was introduced in Ireland on the 1st January 2019. This was the first change to the PAYE System in Ireland since its introduction and there was a need to significantly improve the process.
All P forms- like the P45 and P60, which Irish employers had become so accustomed to, have been taken out of use and replaced by real time reporting to Revenue known as ‘Payroll Submission Requests’. The new system states that relevant payroll data for each employee must be submitted by their employer when they are making a payment. In general, this is weekly or monthly.
The process of claiming tax credits has also changed. Employers must retrieve an up to date RPN for each employee before they run their payroll. The traditional tax credit certificate (P2C) is no longer valid.
